Religion is so weird when you take a step back from it.

But in general, that conversation you just had? I swear I've had a replica conversation just instead of atheism I think I said nihilism. And it's always considered a "phase," which I find mindblowing. Especially because I do plan to have kids, even at this supposed nihilistic "phase" of my life. Why does "God" have to be connected to everything that isn't completely destructive in the conventional sense??? Sometimes I feel like it negates everything else we do.

I'm sorry, I think I've had too much to drink to make sense of what I mean. But I'm glad you posted this.

It really kinda is.

No, that makes sense. It's because of the no-blame-all-the-credit deal he's got going on. Which really, I don't think is all that healthy to teach little kids. All the good stuff you do is God's doing, but the bad stuff, that's all you. Or, I guess, the Devil, depending on your particular brand of religion.

Really, how patronizing is it to assume "phase?"

Yeesh.

I think I have a spare hockey stick you can borrow? (you know... to whack someone over the head with?)

I'd offer a baseball(softball) bat but I don't have it anymore.

As luck would have it, I just bought a new stick yesterday!

So you have one to spare? *g*

(I'm not usually one to advocate violence... honest!)

I do! Well, ok, not really, because I really just bought another one because my stick is really better for wing...big curve, a little smaller. And I need something better for backhands and reach for the team where I play defense. Which reminds me, I need to cut that down.

(that's ok, sometimes violence IS the answer)

Oh dear. I sometimes forget how lucky I am to have family who genuinely have no intention of making me believe anything.

I feel like that's a phenomenon of Western countries other than mine, for sure. I mean, my parents weren't terrible or anything, but I just think it's funny that they think I was raised free to believe anything. I mean, they assumed I would believe the same thing as them, because I was never taught there was any doubt in its truth. When/if I had kids, they'll learn about religion, of course, but they'll learn about all of them at once, and not that any of them are necessarily true.

...possibly in the same breath, they'll learn about the Force, and magic.
