essentialist boots

I calculated how much I’ve been working over the last few weeks and I think I’ve worked close to 100 hours at the Theory Centre. It doesn’t seem like very much to those that work full-time and have been doing so for a while now but to me, this is impressive. I’ve worked part-time over the last two years but I haven’t had more consistent full-time ( Read more... )

I haven't seen Super Size Me, but I have heard nothing but positive things about it until now. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like it either. I've agreed with every one of your movie opinions. It's kind of strange. I'm used to always being the odd one out with my opinion.

It's worth a viewing, just so you know what it's like. At times, Morgan Spurlock is funny but it's just such a simplistic movie. I thought he would have gone further to explain McDonald's and other processed food companies like Kraft or General Mills do harm and how they target the poor and the coloured. It was too much of a 1:1 ratio of fast food = fat when there's more to it than just that. Plus, how many of us have the luxury and privilege of having a white, vegan chef that only used organic foods to feed us?

I'm usually the odd one of out in my film classes too. By chance, what do you think of P.T. Anderson?

I've only seen Boogie Nights and Magnolia. I really couldn't stand Magnolia. I liked Boogie Nights the first time I saw it, but not the second time. I thought Boogie Nights was funny. Often if a movie is funny, I'll like it and disregard other annoying elements.

My good friend loves Magnolia. I remember being incredibly bored watching it. I really don't remember that much except the ending and the black woman interviewing the tom cruise character. She seemed more interesting than any of the other characters. I also liked the cop character. I think I thought he was funny. Otherwise I thought it was really boring and didn't feel touched by any of the problems the people were having.

I didn't really expend a lot of time thinking about it except for the frog part.

I guess there is a slickness to the movie that seemed to cancel out the raw emotions that were being presented.

I bring up P.T. Anderson only because he a bone of contention between me and other film students in my classes. I hate how they elevate him to a position of a deity. PT Anderson is an artiste, they say. I say boooo to that.

I liked Magnolia when I first saw it but then I thought about it more and I saw how pretentious he was and he's a cocky filmmaker with his long takes without any edits (the opening sequence to Boogie Nights).
