I always found that when I made tapes using Dolby C and played them on anything other than the tape deck on which they were made they sounded pretty bad. I stopped using Dolby altogether and was satisfied with the results -- more hiss, yes, but better frequency response overall in my opinion.

As far as other people playing your tapes, I would recommend that they try listening with the Dolby switched on and with it switched off and just see what sounds better.

i think i used to tape on dolby b but al from target hi-fi told me only use dolby c and it sounded all right. i think i should have cleaned the head of my tape deck before making this slew of tapes before christmas.

i find no dolby at all is super hissy but if your tape deck, car or otherwise has a dolby function, it usually helps to put it on - it makes it less muddy sounding.

my tape deck sucks.
