Sketch Post

Here are my sketches that I've been doing:)

And yesterday I bought a nice Windsor and Newton Field Watercolor set, so the next set should be a little more colorful. They are really nice and super convenient-I tested them out last night.

(there are some pretty big scans behind the cut, so it's probably not dial up safe...)

take a look... )

They are so fun to look back on later, but I haven't been remembering my dreams lately (probly because I'm not stressed about finals anymore, so I'm sleeping better...)

They make me sad too- that's why I made a point of figuring out the guy's name. I found a stone once that had the lady's name and birth (and it was in the 1800s) but no death... she is most likely not alive anymore, so i wondered if they just forgot it, or she went somewhere else...

thanks:) the little bastards don't hold still very long, so it's kind of fun to try and capture a pose before it's gone. You should sketch your cats. Like da vinci:)

I love the fish! My Commadore was like that -- as soon as the light came on up he went, happy as a clam!

The gravestones also are very well done! That you looked into the symbolism and imagry in them is even cooler! Somehow I never guessed how much each stone could mean beyond the obvious!

lol that's cute:) I think people are wrong about fish's memories. Because my dad feeds Howell most of the time, and he sure knows when my dad walks by- he flutters around all excited...

thanks:) I thought that was super interesting too- you can get books about them- they almost tell a little story about the person.

I always knew blenders were evil.

The dream sketches are great! Very neat and I love the text.

I love the water colors of the fish!

AND the last two portraits are great. I especially like the blouse on the second one.

that blender is the king of all of the evil blenders. I've set it on fire before!

thanks:)

they're actually ink wash- I have one of those chinese grinding stones. it's fabulous- have you tried it? It's a lot easier to control than india ink. The blacks don't get as black, but you can go in later and add them in.

OH my! ROFL On fire! SCARY!

I have worked some with the Chinese ink stones, but not much. I get really particular and weird when I can't control something just exactly right. I get flustered. I guess that is why I stay stuck on pens so much.

I completely understand that- that is the exact reason I hate graphite and charcoal. It doesn't always stay where you put it. I'm trying to break out of my obsessiveness with detail and work a little more loosely, which is where the ink comes in. It stays where you put it and flows a little more than pens do...

oh it was! I think what happened is I didn't put the pitcher into the blender just right and the motor was grinding against something. All I knew is that there was smoke coming out of it and I didn't want to make smoothies the rest of the day...

I love the fish ones, and the nature ones, and the gravestones and and... everything.
