Hi all, how are you ? It's the time of the year to do this again... It's scary how little progress I've made this year (that you can tell from this survey), but I started a new job in April so it was full of new adventures for me.
1. What did you do in 2008 that you’d never done before?
Had my first : set of business cards/phone number/work PC/work cell/business trips including one to France.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolution, and will you make more for next year?
-Improve my French : NOT done. This shall be carried over to the new year (again).
-Commit my entire being to work : I was practically living in my office so I think I did okay for this one.
-Find a hobby : Not done.
-Get a boyfriend : Who? What?
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My cousin's wife.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes. My first boyfriend Micah, and I miss very much.
5. What countries did you visit?
Singapore and France.
20SEP2008 - 23SEP2008 : Singapore
26OCT2008 - 01NOV2008 : Epernay - Cognac - Paris
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
I'm going to repeat the exact same thing from last year. How sad :
A hobby. An interesting personality. Sex.
7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
January 23rd, the day Micah died. Not that this specific date has much of significance, but the enormous loss it caused and the great insight and strength it gave me shortly afterward.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I finally landed a job that I like.
9. What was your biggest failure?
My fear of failure and embarrassment.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
No.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My TV? Dunno. Certainly not my gym membership which costs me $100 a month ; I've paid $500 so far and went about 5 times.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Anyone who's putting 100% of themselves to their work.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Two Japanese prime ministers and George W Bush.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Booze, I guess ? And that's not going to change next year.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Getting a position in the Marketing division (for a Champagne brand). I'm already starting to get bored, but at least I managed to get a glimpse of what the job entails.
16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
Hmm I don't know.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a.happier or sadder? Happier. At least I have a job!
b.thinner or fatter? Fatter. I've gained 5kg since April.
c.richer or poorer? Slightly richer.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Once again I'm quoting myself from last year's survey :
Socializing.
Socializing.
Socializing.
And sex.
Don't even ask how many times I got laid this year. (Not zero, but very close)
I should have updated LJ more often, too.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Vacillation
20. How will you be spending New Year’s Eve?
Dinner with my family at home, then party with friends.
20. Did you fall in love in 2008?
No. Got a crush on a guy in Sales, then on an Australian friend but the total lack of interest on their part made it obvious that it wasn't worth "falling in love".
21. How many one-night stands?
None.
22. What was your favorite TV program?
I bought Oprah's 20th anniversary 6-DVD box and watched it frequently.
23. Did you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
I don't think so.
24. What was the best book you read?
I'm reading Tale of Genji. It's taking me fucking forever but I'm amused at how much I relate to the story written 1,000 years ago.
25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I like Rei Harakami... But 3 CDs and I was bored.
26. What did you want and get?
A trip to Epernay (Champagne) and Paris.
27. What was your favorite film of the year?
東京物語 (Tokyo Story) by Yasujiro Ozu, 1953. (I think I saw it this year ?) The film is about the ambivalent feelings you have for your parents/children. This film depicts exactly what I felt when my parents came to visit me in Seattle/Paris. I'm deeply in love with a lot of his work.
28. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I have no recollection of that day. I probably slept through the whole day. I turned 25.
29. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
A boyfriend. Friends. Money. (Okay that's more than "one thing" but hey)
30. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Classique.
31. What kept you sane?
My family.
32. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
No one.
33. What political issue stirred you the most?
The US Presidential Election, I guess ? Even though the result seemed obvious to me from the start.
34. Who did you miss?
Micah E. Petersen
35. Who was the best new person you met?
Hmm I hoped Andrew (the Australian guy) would be more interested in me so that I'd know him well enough to make him the "best new person in 2009". But that didn't happen.
36. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:
Once again, same as last year:
"Hang in there, you're not as stressed as you think you are".
38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:I'll have to think about this one...
