Meredith lit up, laughing at the announcement. Going into a new year happy felt weird, like something was supposed to go wrong, and there was still the nagging worry that she should be counting down the hours until Sean or Cristina or George just disappeared, but right now, she was happy anyway. It was weird, but unavoidable, and there was no point in wasting this night.

"It is pretty great," she agreed, grinning. "George, they have everything."

"I know!" George exclaimed, pretty sure this was the happiest he'd been since showing up. When he was sober again, he was going to have to decide whether ringing in the new year in such a good mood was a stepping stone to a better time on the island, or if things could only go downhill.

"There's tequila, and lots of it."

"That," Meredith said, pointing at him with a nod, "I already knew." Granted, she'd made better use of it at previous parties than she was doing this year, but it still made her downright cheerful. She could pretend nothing would go wrong one night at a time. She grinned. "And you've had a lot of it already, haven't you?"
