It's 1996 again, and I'm obsessed w/ The Sisters Of Mercy and TNI by Front Line Assembly.  The former is surprisingly good and holds its own well after all these years.  The latter suffers from the usual horrendous lyrics and vocals, but still rocks so hard that it's okay.  Also, Mr. Leeb somehow manages to tuck the really awful bits (eg: "digital ( Read more... )

i know! i keep trying to convince gina that front line assembly ain't about the lyrics, maaan. it's about cold, hard, mechanical, superficial-as-fuck-but-damn-those-beats-are-hot, early 90's electro industrial -- the root of my being. i realize how completely stupid that album is in terms of actual content, but damn it still sounds pretty. now thanks to her, everytime i listen to gun, it's "mozzarella fists in the air!".

i think som holds up pretty well, in its own bombastic goth-rock kinda way. there's a bunch of songs on floodland that are really good; i only wish they'd recorded "1959" on an actual piano, because deep down that's a great song but the digital piano is just so fucking thin. ah well ( ... )

FLA -- indeed, they really helped pave the path for the whole "it's good if you don't pay attention to the lyrics" electro-industrial scene. I mean, FLA's beats are SO bad-ass that it's almost like they're taunting audience to ignore them. Bill Leeb knows that everyone tries to be art-fags and care about lyrics, but deep down we're all just slave to the rhythm.

Thank Gina for the mozzerella thing -- it's ruined for me now, too.

Word to your SOM critique.

The apartment -- yes, you must come visit. I'm planning on having a low-key housewarming type happening sometime in January - a wine & cheese type event, as opposed to hard-kore boozin'. You cats should def come by for that, if not sooner.

VNV -- I will be in England from the 26th thru Jan 2nd, so unfortunately I can't go. But shake yer fists in the air at Ronan for me.

congrats on your new apt! i'm sure it looks kick ass and i look forward to seeing it. i look forward to having a small get together there sometime in the near future (i'm based on space constraints and past experiences at the other brooklyn pad..... an all-out par-tay wouldn't be the best idea!! :) )

also - i'm so happy you're going to england! you guys will most definitely have a blast! i can't wait to hear all about it!

Thanks! Indeed, the new place will not be the krazy party pad (due to space and neighbor constraints), but I do want to have people over regularly for movies and such. And it's always nice to have an outpost in northern 718 for our possie, should we want to go somewhere in the 'burg (cuz that happens all the time).

I'm psyched about England! Can't wait to see if it lives up to the hype. ;)
