make that SMS text work for you...

I don't believe in "short" text-messages.  Use all 160 characters at your disposal - don't abbreviate a thing!  The phone company is bilking you, so bilk them right back (do the math: compare price-per-byte of a text-message vs. price-per-byte of a data plan or a voice plan).  After all, you're not paying by the keystroke, you're paying per text-

True, but my time is worth something to me too. I don't use a lot of text-speak, but some, especially when I'm in a hurry. Though it's a lot easier to write longer messages with a qwerty on my phone. :)

Do much nose-cutting and face-spiting there, doubleyou? ;)

Even with a "full" keyboard, I type too slow for it to be worth it. My strongest phone-company bilk-back is to just stay on the cheapest possible plan for as long as possible. (That is, I move up to the new cheapest plan whenever they decide to stop grandfathering in old plans, and never sooner.)

I've been doing that as well. But that's becoming progressively more difficult for me, as the temptation increases to get a "smart" phone (and the accompanying data plan). But there does not seem to be a data plan that does not gouge the customer in some way.

Come to think of it, the phone companies probably price text messages such that they still make money even when you use the maximum length. That should have occurred to me earlier. Still, using the full length minimizes their profit.

I'm well aware that I'm using the same reasoning as a guy who mails back sealed empty pre-paid postage envelopes to from the unsolicited offers of credit-cards, as a way to stick it to them. Yeah, it's just a blip, if even that...
