I'd say that decriminalizing, or even legalizing, marijuana would be beneficial to the economy. Considering that marijuana doesn't possess the same potentially fatal side effects of harder drugs (or even tobacco and alcohol), I don't see why it should carry such severe penalties for possession, sale, or use.

On one hand, decriminalizing marijuana would place less of a burden on law enforcement. Communities wouldn't have to spend as much fighting the drug, court trials, and it would help relieve the burden on prisons, leaving them open to inmates who commit worse crimes against society.

On another hand, legalizing marijuana introduces quality control standards, moves the drug from the black market to the economic market, and leaves it subject to taxation, introducing not only new legit businesses but an added source of revenue for states.
