A visiting nurse did come on Thursday -- she was quite blunt about what we needed to do to keep Fiona's weight from dropping too far. Babies are lazy, and new parents are too nice about letting them sleep instead of making them eat -- babies sometimes will sleep through their feedings, and need to be teased, tickled, and blown on to stay awake while feeding. Alikander and I spent most of Thursday tanking Fiona up, sprinkling cool water on her, playing with her toes, anything to keep her from falling asleep while feeding. Fortunately the true milk supply was just coming in, and by the time we had Fiona weighed on Friday, we had stopped the weight downslide. She feeds for 15 to 30 minutes at a stretch sometimes, probably 30-40 minutes every 2 to 3 hours!
Thanks for sharing the story. It sounds like an amazing experience (I'm sure that I'd have passed out so my job has always been to bring presents and goodies)! I'm glad to hear that things are going well. She's sooooo cute!!!
