I have not completed the game, but the majority of the aspects I will be discussing aren't dependent on what actually happens with the story; I'm going to be talking about more technical/logistical aspects to it

It didn't honestly sound like my cup of tea. I don't like being very passive in combat and yet it sounds like this game still maintains a hidden amount of overly-complicated gobbley-gook in the background if you were to actually really try to do combat yourself which was the huge pitfall--to me--of FFXII.
tbh if you try to create your own combat, you can lose time, and sometimes it's been sheer luck I didn't die simply because Lightning or Hope casted Cure on the party leader just before super mega death attack or w/e happened. And if your party leader dies, it doesn't matter if everyone else has 100% health, you die.
I've always liked to think that Final Fantasy isn't a button masher game like Mortal Kombat or w/e where I just randomly press buttons and what have you, but it isn't a "reflex" game either like Halo or w/e. For me, it's been a game that a casual gamer can play for a decent RPG that mostly goes off good leveling up and strategy.
Yeah, my friend and I are playing "together" and we just reached pulse. I realize how much grinding there has to be done and it's gonna suck. But, I really like the game / story / characters / etc. so I won't be giving up on it. I don't even know when I'll be leaving Pulse tbh, but it won't be anytime soon.
I'm disappointed at how limited the exploration of Pulse has been tbh. It's such a vast world, with no signs of life... and I don't feel like reading those angsty entries in the Datalog about it or w/e lmfao. Hopefully in the sequel we get to see more of it and not some giant grassy plains with 2394082349023890 fiends on it.
i found that the datalog was there to help you understand the story more because without it i would have been quite lost. it actually helped me to fill in the blanks. i have to agree about lightning being a protagonist and not the protagonist though. if anything xiii-2 will be her game but xiii wasn't
( ... )
for me though, i don't like to play a game and have to read the manual to figure out what's going on. there's a certain element of storytelling i feel the game should include.
yeah, lightning and fang were the only redeeming characters in this game.
and i know towards the middle/end of a ff game, you ended up in the thousands of gil department and it basically became that money wasn't an object, but who. really. cares? i can't even buy damn phoenix downs or potions because i was so low on gil. i'm not a fan of atb style fighting, but i think it's a personal preference if you'll like that set up or not.
