Keeping track

So in the interest of being able to look this up in future posting latest dizzy spells. Sunday I had full on tunnel vision, hold on to something when I stood up from crouching. Monday I was mostly just very very tired, muscles felt like noodles but I attributed it to swimming in the morning. I didn't fight at training. Tuesday (after a night of ( Read more... )

I'd suggest getting your blood pressure checked. Low blood pressure definitely makes me dizzy and tired and can be the result of low electrolytes caused by exertion. Try an energy drink with electrolytes and see if that picks you up. If it is low BP the solution is easy - eat more salt.

P.S. Being dizzy when you stand up from a crouch is definitely an indication of low BP - when I worked in a library it was a real problem when I was shelving books first thing in the morning.

I get my blood pressure checked fairly often as I am a regular blood doner. They always say "OK, all normal" Sometimes thay say go home and eat more meat your iron is low, though not recently. I did find that beef jerky picked me up yesterday, so low salt could have been the problem.

My blood pressure usually sits quite happily at the low end of normal, but it fluctuates, often quite wildly if I'm sick, early in the morning, and if I've overdone. So it doesn't surprise me that you could be getting normal readings at the doctors (and there is a known phenomenon of 'white coat anxiety' which can push it up in the doctor's surgery). If it persists I'd suggest an exercise or stress test, where they push you hard on a stationary bike and then do all the tests. Lack of iron will cause lethargy, certainly, but not usually dizziness, but it certainly won't be helping. The other thing is that you need to make sure you're properly hydrated - low fluids will also cause low blood pressure. Personally I self medicate with a cup of tea and a bag of salt and vinegar chips and I find that does the trick admirably.
