It happens on a bright, sunny day, with birds chirping and dogs barking. A really normal day, really. Save for the fact that as Jinki's shuffling his way to the bathroom, still in transition from sleeping to waking, Kibum bounces over, pushes him against the wall, and kisses him.

Jinki blinks and Kibum smiles brightly. "Good morning, Jinki," Kibum says, waggling his fingers, and skips off. Jinki blinks again, and trips into the bathroom.

Later that day, Jinki's leaning against the counter, munching on an apple. The kitchen kind of reminds him of a nature show, sometimes; the watering hole of an African safari. There's Minho, the quiet giraffe, who comes in for a drink of water, followed closely by Taemin, the happy, bouncy monkey that likes to pester the giraffe until he gets a reaction from him. After they leave, Jonghyun comes crashing in like an elephant, talking loudly and asking Jinki what he thinks of this and that. After a few minutes, Jinki's alone again, apple more than halfway gone. Absently, he wonders what animal he himself would be - maybe an antelope, or a wildebeest. Though honestly, he just doesn't think he has the coordination to pull them off.

The last to come into the kitchen is Kibum, looking very much like a hungry lion. Jinki thinks of this morning and nearly chokes on a bite of apple. No, definitely not a wildebeest, though he wishes he was a cheetah, right about now. "Okay there?" Kibum asks, nonchalant, and digs a bottle of water out of the fridge.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Jinki lies, smiling. "Just didn't chew properly, is all."

Kibum's smile curls into something a little more feral, and then Kibum's invading personal space. "That's nice," Kibum says, then kisses him again. Jinki's fight or flight malfunctions and he ends up standing there blushing and feeling incredibly stupid, lips pursed slightly because well, what else is he supposed to do? Kibum pulls back, licking his lips. "I really like apples," he says, stealing a bite from the one in Jinki's hand.

"Um," Jinki says.

Kibum smiles widely and leaves the room singing, "Whatever he does, it's Onew Condition!"

In the end, Jinki decides he's probably a fish.

The next few days are much the same way, Jinki's guard down at the wrong time and Kibum's... whatever it is, on high alert. By now, Jinki's lost count of how many times Kibum's kissed him, but he's not lost on the fact that they're never more than that; simple, firm presses of lips that only last for a few seconds. But those few seconds are enough to send Jinki into a state of distress, wondering if he should have kissed back, if he should have pushed Kibum away and said something.

Despite what the outside world thinks, Jinki's not... well, dumb or anything. Though, he does have to admit, he has more than a few slip-ups on a daily basis and they're not that far between each other. Even though it seems like Kibum's just playing a game, Jinki knows Kibum well enough to know that there's something he's looking for with this.

Jinki just... doesn't have a clue what it is.

Jinki doesn't really mean to, but he starts avoiding Kibum - at least, as much as one can avoid someone they share a small apartment with. If the other members have noticed something strange, they're keeping it to themselves. Jinki's sure Jonghyun and Minho both have, especially after what happened in the living room earlier, when Kibum flopped down on the sofa next to Jinki and Jinki bolted. Part of Jinki is glad they've kept quiet about it, but part of him wishes they'd ask him what's going on, so he'd have a reason to talk. Otherwise, he keeps to himself as of late, too embarrassed and distraught over his own feelings to even try.

Sometime in the afternoon, Jinki sneaks into the kitchen for a glass of water, and completely misses Kibum's arrival until he's turning and Kibum's there. "Ki-" he starts, but doesn't get to finish because when Kibum's determined, he's determined. There's something different about this kiss, though. It's more soft, a little bit sweet, and Jinki's not sure, but he thinks Kibum slipped him some tongue.

"Uh, I'll just come back."

Both of them startle, glancing over. Minho's got an amused smile on his face that slips slightly when Taemin's bounding steps can be heard coming from down the hallway, as well as, "Minho-hyung! Have you seen Kibum-hyung anywhere? I'm starving!"

Kibum pushes himself away and Jinki smooths his hair down nervously, licking his lips. Watering hole, indeed. "I... need to go for a run," he says in a rush, making his exit before Taemin can see how red his face is - the way it's burning, he wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't even find the color in nature anywhere.

Jinki changes in a hurry, nearly knocking himself out when one of his feet gets tangled. Chill, Lee, he thinks, heaving a deep sigh. "Want me to come with, hyung?" Minho asks, suddenly standing in the doorway of their room in his sweats and hoodie. Jinki's not really in the mood for company, but since Minho's already dressed, he'd feel bad saying no.

"Yeah, if you want," he says, running a hand through his hair. "Is Kibum busy?"

Minho nods, jerking a thumb back towards the kitchen. "Taemin's got Umma's undivided attention, don't worry."

"So," Minho says when the apartment complex is out of sight, "What's up?"

"What makes you think anything is up?" Jinki says evasively, blushing again. "Kibum's just. You know. Being Kibum... I think."

Minho raises a brow, the corner of his mouth upturned slightly. "Hyung, I'm pretty sure Kibum hasn't been kissing any of us," he says slowly.

"Well! I- I don't know why he keeps kissing me!" Jinki splutters, stumbling over a rock.

"Keeps kissing you?" Minho questions.

Jinki mentally slaps himself. "Okay, fine. He's been kissing me. Like, out of nowhere, he'll just show up and he'll kiss me like he does it all the time or something, and then just walk off like nothing has happened, when something has clearly happened and I just don't know what to do!"

There's a pause and Jinki contemplates singing Onew Condition. "Have you kissed him back?" Minho finally asks, sounding amused.

Jinki stops. "Huh? What do you mean?"

Minho laughs, shaking his head. "Listen, hyung. Either you kiss him back, or you tell him to stop." He pats Jinki on the shoulder. "If you ask me, the fact that you haven't stopped him yet makes me wonder if maybe you like what he's doing." Minho smiles widely. "Or, you know, like him in general."

Jinki blushes, smoothing his hair. "You're not- it doesn't weird you out?"

Minho shrugs, pushing Jinki forward. "I figure, if two people like each other, it really shouldn't matter if they're both boys or both girls." After a moment, he adds, "I wouldn't go broadcasting it to the world, though."

"Yeah," Jinki murmurs, shuddering at the thought of being outcast by everyone he knows. "We'll just keep it in the band. Hey- hey, wait, how do I approach him now?"

"I thought he was always coming at you?" Minho says, frowning.

"Well, yeah, but. Shouldn't I make a first move now?" Jinki says, followed by a small 'oof' as Minho pulls him out of the way of a pothole he hadn't seen. "Oh, wait, maybe I could be like, 'so, Kibum, did it hurt when you fell out of heaven'?"

Minho gives him a look.

"Whatever he does, it's Onew Condition."

Later that night, everyone's asleep but Jinki. Jonghyun's snoring softly from his place at Taemin's side, Minho's buried under his blankets like some kind of Minho-lump, and Kibum keeps thrashing around restlessly. Jinki's about to give up and go into the living room for a late-night movie when Kibum sighs heavily and sits up. "You're an idiot, Kim Kibum," he murmurs, sliding off the bed. Jinki watches him leave and bites his lip. Should he follow him? Should he just stay here and be plagued with thoughts until he goes insane?

Jinki doesn't really want to be any more insane than he already is, so he gets up, too. He finds Kibum in the kitchen, leaning against the counter with an apple. "Hey," Jinki says softly, smiling nervously.

Kibum waves fingers, looking oddly subdued. "Thought you were asleep," he says, frowning.

Jinki shakes his head, fingering the edge of his tshirt as he moves next to Kibum. "I've been awake all night," he admits. "Saw you get up, so I thought I'd come keep you company." Feeling awkward, he continues, "I was um, I was thinking of watching a movie, if you want to join me. I mean, it's cool if you don't, you seem down about something right now, but I just thought I'd offer." He takes a deep breath as Kibum glances over, looking bemused. "Anyway. Yeah," he finishes with absolutely no flourish at all.

"Jinki, I'm sorry," Kibum says after a while, setting his apple down. "For kissing you. I was just. You know, having fun. I won't do it anymore, okay?"

Jinki clears his throat and slides his palms down his pants. "You're not an idiot," he says, peeking up. "I mean, I heard you say that when you got up and... yeah, you're not." Before he can embarrass himself any further, he gathers his courage and cups Kibum's face, kissing him soft and quick.

Kibum stares at him, mouth slightly open. There's a weird shocked silence (because Jinki still can't believe he just did that), and Jinki's sure he's going to either explode from blushing so hard or possibly just die of a heart attack. Belatedly, he realizes he's still cupping Kibum's face and it's actually... quite comfortable. "Would you do that again?" Kibum eventually says, quietly. "Maybe longer, this time?"

Jinki smiles, nodding. He's really just better off with no words at all, just action. This time, he leans in slowly, taking in how different Kibum looks this close, how his breathing speeds up to catch Jinki's heart. Jinki's never noticed before, but Kibum's lips are really soft, if slightly chapped. Kibum's hands tentatively clutch at Jinki's back, fingers twitching as Jinki tilts his head like they do in the movies.

"Hey," Kibum says when they finally break apart, "Let's watch that movie, but under one condition."

"Onew Condition?" Jinki jokes, grinning.

Kibum rolls his eyes and shoves at Jinki's shoulder. "Whatever, no. The condition is that when I kiss you, you have to kiss back."

Jinki threads his fingers through Kibum's and pulls him toward the living room. "Yeah, I think I can do that," he says. When they're settled, Jinki remembers he still has one more thing to do. "Oh, I have to ask you something."

Kibum raises his brows.

"Did it hurt?" Jinki asks.

"Um," Kibum says, confused, "Did what hurt? The kiss? Because yeah, you kind of got teeth-happy towards the end there."

Jinki flushes. "Er, no, I meant did it hurt when you fell out of heaven."

Kibum sighs loudly. "Aigoo. Come here, I need to shut you up," he says, pulling Jinki into a kiss.
