"What happened to us exactly, Seulgi? How did we end up like this?" How come we aren't friends anymore?
Her fingers feel clammy as she cups the coffee in her hand, black and bitter like her, even through all these years. Ten years of separating from this person who used to be a friend who is barely there even when they promised each other to go against the world. Soojung joined the world, leaving Seulgi as a freak hiding from her own shadows.
"I'm tired, Soojung," Seulgi falls over into an ocean of her thoughts and feelings she wishes to never feel, when she thinks that people are just a composite of flesh, bones and plastic hearts, and Soojung became one of them through the course of 7 years of their friendship.
"I was tired, and I still am. I'm tired of reaching out into the void to see no one. i was tired of reaching out into you, to see that you are just like them and not like how we promised us to be."
"We're supposed to rule this fucking horrible world out of its order, but you left, Jung Soojung. You left me in the dark."
"We didn't know anything, Seulgi. We were reckless, and we were fools, looking for a chance to stand out amidst the uniformed minds-"
Seulgi scoffs. "Look at the result of knowing too much; self-proclaimed maturity-"
"You're too narrow minded to grow up-"
"You're too nosy of the world to be human-"
"-but seven years, Seulgi. you were my friend. Didn't that seven years matter at all?"
Her breath hitches. "The past never matters, it never is."
