It's an ordinary Friday, which is the way these things always start out. Eirene rises early, enough to kiss her husband farewell before he heads out to help with chores and then head to work. The apartment is blessedly quiet and she takes advantage long enough to set a kettle on the stove before curling up on the couch with an ear open for her

A quick word with his editor later and he's on his way back to the apartment in Granville, opening the door roughly two minutes after Eirene called him.
"Ren?"

Zoe is safely secured against her mother's chest in a sling.
"Back here, boyscout."

Only then does he fully take in the entire scene. "...there's a hole in the wall."
