It's an ordinary Friday, which is the way these things always start out. Eirene rises early, enough to kiss her husband farewell before he heads out to help with chores and then head to work. Clark's pretty sure he didn't hear that right. Or that Eirene was being literal, but clearly, his wife is a bit shaken up about something enough to call him at work and ask him to come home. She never does that.

A quick word with his editor later and he's on his way back to the apartment in Granville, opening the door roughly two minutes after Eirene called him.

"Ren?"

In the two minutes since she's spoken to Clark, Eirene has cleaned up about half the toys and books that had lined the shelves along that wall, stacking them into separate piles.

Zoe is safely secured against her mother's chest in a sling.

"Back here, boyscout."

He follows the voice into Zoe's bedroom and is relieved to see both wife and daughter appear perfectly safe.

Only then does he fully take in the entire scene. "...there's a hole in the wall."

Eirene settles a protective hand against her daughter's back, nervous about putting Zoe down again.
