Cooking Adventures
Cooking for my family is... difficult. My dad doesn't really like bleu cheese. My mother doesn't like olives. Neither of them care for salmon (... except for lox, sometimes) and my brother barely eats anything healthy at all. So it figures that both my brother and I love to cook and bake. Me, I'm willing to try anything once. Life is too short to miss out on anything, even if 'anything' is squid tentacles (kay, so I didn't know what calamari was at the time...). Anyhow, I was taking a French cooking class, but it was less of a class and more of a walk through. Which was boring. So I quit, and now I'm off on my own looking through 'Joy of Cooking' to find something my entire family will eat.
As a point of interest, I have found a 'Colbert Sauce', which amused me greatly, as well as 'Sauce Robert', which brought to mind RDJ chopped up and sauteed with olive oil and onions. *headdesk* I really want to attempt boeuf whatever the hell it is, bourguignon or something, but that's a winter dish, and takes all day to make. So I bought Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Vol. II. Why two? Some deep inner reason? Some superstition about doing things out of order...?
Uh, no. Just couldn't find volumn one. >_<
Except for in a box set that was eighty bucks. Which I really can't afford. On this same trip, I ended up with Gin Tama vol 1, VB Rose, Black Butler Vol 1, and two Temperance Brennan novels.
Yeah, Bones the TV show was based off these novels by Kathy Reichs. They're great- if you like crime novels, check 'em out.
So now I've got Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and a family that's not all that into trying new things. This... might be interesting. I think I'm thinking fish tomorrow. Hmm. I'm also willing to take recommendations of recipes or dishes though ;-)
New layout! Think this one'll stay around for a while. Now I gotta go make a profile layout. Right now it's less than attractive. ^_^ Mintyapple was a great comm find in the layout respect.
New fic coming up, soonish. Super excited cause it's the extending of a series of stories Caroline and I wrote earlier, and there's some fun stuff involved I mentioned in earlier posts. Anyhow, I have to go edit a layout for holmes_finders, which I've neglected to do due to lack of internet. Must go do.
Onward and upwards! (or is it upward and onwards?)
