new story

Flashing in the Gutters has been good to me, so I've written a couple more pieces since the last time I posted their site. I don't generally write with a specific magazine/site in mind (bad decision). Below is the beginning of a story written with another magazine in mind, this time "Strange Horizons". Tell me what you think so far ( Read more... )

I like this. It's very surreal. I had to read it a couple of times. The first time I was a little confused, but when I re-read it and thought about the two parts I began to form my own idea of what this story is about, which may or may not be wrong. But, as is always the case with your stories, my curiosity is peaked so you must finish this and show me when you're done! I like Strange Horizons. I've been thinking about sending them some poems. Good luck!

Which parts were most confusing? I'd like to keep it as simple as possible, while hitting the points that have to be there.

I think the part that most confused me was the machine that the narrator (and everyone else?) was messing with. At first, I was like WTF is he talking about? Once I read the second part, then re-read both parts, I hypothesized that perhaps the machine was some sort of time travel device. I may be wrong, but my guess is that the narrator is either a player or desperate guy from the future who thinks he has to travel back in time to respond to a missing pet ad with the goal of scoring some nookie. Am I on target here? Hope this helps a tiny bit. :-) Happy Bunny Day! See you tomorrow when I drop off the cookies. Oh, and I sent V. some stuff for her litmag.

I was thinking that the time traveling and getting laid are connected and somehow both related to the job? Or maybe the nookie is part of the "perks?"

Anyway, I dig this so far. I don't think it's confusing so much as we'll understand better what's going on once there's more story to read.

Good luck!

I like it! I agree that it was kind of surreal. I didn't find it confusing though, it just took me a second to realize that it was a fantasy piece and let my mind construct something a little different from the norm.

On another note, I just now realized you commented on my personality post. I'm also an INTJ, but I'm just barely an I or a T (6% and 1%). Apparently I'm like Kennedy and Ulysses S. Grant...who knew?
