the majority of shows that i've played in my life came from
-having a promoter/dj/venue employee see my show at another venue
-knowing/meeting another band that is already established with the venue and grabbing a support slot

actually... i can't think of a time i've ever sent in a press kit or demo and came away with a show.

I sent a "press kit" to Black Sun. I think that's the only one I ever sent.

I didn't even need to do it for Infest in the UK. Luckily he'd heard of us!

Coming from the 'promoter' side of things, I agree with this, too. For the one club I used to book for, I usually had about 50 bands a year vying for about 12 slots. I tended to book the bands I had either already seen live and knew I was getting quality, or because I had a good recommendation from someone else I trusted.

shame on them. if they don't love it, they shouldn't do it.
fame? money? ha!
you do it for the music & the fun that comes with it.
anything else is just a bonus.
