ri: the moooooooooovie

Okay, kids, I don't want to do my fucking French essay. Here is that iTunes meme, except I didn't put it on random, I just scrolled down my library and picked out what my gut told me, in order to waste the greatest amount of time.

opening credits - 311, "i'll be here awhile"
A 'this too shall pass' attitude that is comprised of optimism, pessimism, and suburban neuroses. Fitting introduction.

waking up scene - better than ezra, "je ne m'en souviens pas"
The fuzziness of just waking up and walking into crisp morning air and a busy day. Filtered voices and drum tracks make the atmosphere almost ambient. The camera pans out on Clark as I walk to class.

car driving scene - elliott smith, "color bars"
Driving through New England thinking about the struggle between love and idealism.

high school flashback scene - natalie imbruglia, "pigeons and crumbs"
Teen angst. Reluctant teen angst, but teen angst none the less,

nostalgic scene - jamiroquai, "seven days in sunny june"
Love in the summertime. Memories are tinged gold.

bitter angry scene - nelly furtado, "crazy (gnarls barkley cover)"
The song drifts in as the fight is ending, and follows their split-screen fuming after they each stomp off.

break up scene - devendra banhart, "when the sun shone on the vetiver"
Sad.

regret scene - collective soul, "run"
Lots of staring off into the distance, I bet, and conversations with lots of pauses between sentences. Maybe a panorama, or a bit of rain.

nightclub/bar scene - sean paul, "temperature"
It's not hard picking an ass-shaking song. This is all my club scene needs.

action scene - blur, "parklife"
Capers, shenanigans, and the exuberance of youth!

lawn mowing scene - eels, "novocaine for the soul"
I imagine 'American Beauty'-esque.

sad breakdown scene - oasis, "sunday morning call"
Liam howls notes and I throw things in a tantrum and cry out to the heavens, but mostly I curl up in a fetal position.

death scene - kecak dance chant
Come on. The fast rhythms of the chant would add that nice touch of absurdity to it, playing over everyone's horror - overt or otherwise - at this death.

pot-smoking scene - gorillaz, "don't get lost in heaven"
A very light and buoyant song.

dreaming about someone scene - herbie hancock, "watermelon man"
Just the first part where it's all pipes though, 'cos it sounds so curious. It makes it perfect background music for anything except breakup scenes.

sex scene - neve, "drift"
Typical Hollywood.

contemplation scene - jude, "george"
Similar to the regret scene, I imagine.

chase scene - louise attaque, "j't'emmene au vent"
What is it about fast fiddle music that brings to mind a chase scene.

happy love scene - the moldy peaches, "anyone else but you"
A simple, child-like love, involving drugs.

happy friend scene - manu chao, "bongo bong"
Ideally the song would be playing over a scene where my friends and I are stoned in the back of a pickup truck driving somewhere. Blue skies and slow-motion summer adventures.

closing credits - our lady peace, "thief"
"Life's tough but I'm here for you, buddy."
