For a select number of people, most of whom aren't even filipino, right? I love it and miss it and more but when I speak to a lot of overseas filipinos who never wanted to leave but had to, the overwhelming majority of them like to tell me that the Philippines is only good for people with money.
I remember us discussing how subcultures come later to countries with more important things to worry about... and look what's happened! There was also an explosion of rocker/goth types in Rome from when I left to when I went back... so interesting.
My coursemate went back home to Strasbourg for the Fete, I should ask her how her experience was.
I reckon mostly it's just byproduct of economic activity, culture being imported as an economic commodity. First you have to afford to engage in it. My brother just told me the high price of gas in the US is preventing the smaller indie bands from touring around the country as much as before, which makes sense.

There's definitely a rising middle class, more than before, but FTMP they're right.
