In these here parts, it's hard to get a clerk job unless you have experience as a page. Once you've worked as a page for a brief time, however, you're considered "experienced" and can be quickly bumped forward if the position comes up. In the Phoenix, Maricopa, and Flagstaff positions, they're rarely advertised outside, though. The tech services positions work the same way and pay even better. Bookmans experience will help with all of this.
Anyway, this is just me saying "take the page position if it's offered because the rate of promotion tends to be high". Sometimes it doesn't look that way when you speak to the others in the circ department (at every library I've worked and volunteered at), but a lot of people page for ten years just because they prefer hiding in the stacks over dealing with the public.
On all other accounts: Yay! It sounds like things are heading in a great direction. How are you liking the city?
