Thesis, schmesis

It could have been worse.  As expected a small multitude turned up for the free feed but could only stay 30 minutes or so.  I had problems with the projector connecting with my laptop, so Charlotte went first.  By the time she had finished half the audience had to leave, including the Head of English Studies (praise be for small mercies - yes, ( Read more... )

Ahem. I'm one day late in catching up on LJ apparently. Glad to hear that the presentation went ok. VM is not too hard to believe! It's all about being believable in the world set up by the show. *nods*

I'm just glad it's over.

I'm just waiting for my dvd to finish burning so I can watch VM S3Ep1!!! I watched it on the video stream last week, but it was on the laptop, so I'm looking forward to seeing it on the TV screen. Busy downloading week - Heroes, Gilmore Girls, VM, Lost, Bones, Smallville and Battlestar Galactica!!!!

Mmmm. I have no idea how your thesis stuff is supposed to be presented to gain you the best degree possible, nor how the way 'they' want it presented differs from your preference. Nor have I ever seen VM. So, unlikely to be of much help to you, hun. But is it possible to slip in chunks of the way you wanna present stuff and then add their way as a balance of POV? Possibly showing the difference between being a clinical observer and an emotionally invested one? Just a thought. *hugs*

Think what I'll do is just get the first chapter done, and submitted to the lecturer - that means I've completed the subject, then I can go and re-work the chapter next year when I'm spending just the 12 months on the thesis and nothing else. Thanks for your thoughts.

Congrats on your successful presentation!

What you are describing is the typical situation of the Research Student. Too bad Clog Man isn't your honours supervisor. I think you need someone understanding and supportive of YOUR work (not someone's idea of what your work should be) giving you advice. On the one hand, one of my PhD students who was initially resistent to the Research Methods leader (Professor Quantitative), found his suggestions helpful, or at least arguing the other point of view (Ms. Feminist Qualitative) helpful. On the other hand, I have seen students ripped by the lions of competing perspectives. I think you need to listen to what others say, but by all means you need to write the Thesis you care about, and know how to write. And you really must believe in yourself! I believe in you, hon!

Clog Man would be much better!

Have just downloaded VM, and am currently in the process of d/l Lost - do you want me to send you the new eps - silly question ;-)!
