Lily's never really enjoyed the family's paintball games that much. She's not the best shot and they always separated her and her brother. Made things more difficult that way. She didn't need to be his guardian for that to cause some distress. Of course, it more reminded everyone (read: Ken) how much of a better person Kaden was ( ... )

Mizuki freezes for a moment when the paintball gun goes to her head, but doesn't take the knife out of Kaden's hand. She just hesitates a moment, then twists it sideways.

"I was getting to it," she pouts. "You just showed up too soon." She takes the knife out, slowly.

Kaden is smiling, though he hisses softly when Mizuki removes the knife. He knows better than to try and take his hand away when there's a knife through it. "Hey, kiddo," he says.

And that's about when the dark shadow holding the flashlight, having gotten into position, hits Lily hard in the head, sending her sideways.

Iris comes in a ways behind Lily, her breath coming out in great angry gulps. In stark contrast to Lily's quite presentable entrance, she's covered almost totally in paint, her clothes sodden with it, her face a garish, clownlike mask of purples and yellows. Dark bruises blossom behind the paint smears, invisible. Her lungs feel like they're going to collapse. She's crying. It hurts ( ... )

By the time Iris shows, they've not only cuffed Lily across the room just in case she wakes up again, but Mizuki has also put a few more pointy metal bits through Kaden's hand, this time with significantly more care than she did the knife. She knows exactly where elicits the most pain in people. Though it hasn't gotten even close to making him want to let his wings out, yet.

"--only get worse if you don't--ah!" Mizuki turns as Iris scrambles in. "There she is." She gives Kaden a momentary look, as if to ask if he's gotten the data he needs ( ... )
