[rp] Feeling the quest for an answer

Since Iris disappeared, Kaden's been getting more and more unstable. Well, in reality, since Iris moved in, Kaden's been getting more and more unstable, but he hasn't really realized that. Not that he's entirely realized his instability at the moment, either, even though he hasn't come out of his study in days, except to go to the bathroom and, ( Read more... )

Which means Lily's stuck at home, trying to bring her brother back from wherever he is. It's so hard, in moments like these. Luckily, one of her professors is an angel, so the whole "my ward is being a mite problematic" is actually an excuse. But otherwise, she's been having to do all of her work sitting outside of his study and hoping that her GPA doesn't get ruined to fuck-all because Kaden's going insane.

"Won't you at least eat?" she tries. It's not the first time she's asked this, and it won't be the last. And it's not like she's been eating either. It's hard to, when everything is falling apart. "Kaden, please, just talk to me."

Her voice on the other side of the door jolts him out of the stupor he'd been in, staring at his notes half-awake and trying to parse what he'd written. He's sure that it makes sense and he's just tired, rather than the notes being gibberish. If they're gibberish, that's a bigger warning sign, and he wrote these before he was like this.

He shakes his head to try and clear it. "I have eaten," he insists, even though he's not entirely sure when that was. Earlier today. Maybe yesterday? He realizes he doesn't know what day it is anymore.

Well, at least he's talking to her. That's a step up from all the silence. "Kaden, you haven't eaten in days," she says. "There's no way you can get any research done if you don't eat something."

At least he's been drinking water. Otherwise she might have to break down the door and strangle him. Either way... he's been at this so long. She needs him to quit. Try something else.

Or maybe she's just being selfish and wants to do something with her life.

He glances at his computer. Thursday. That really tells him nothing, given that he doesn't know the last day he ate or the last time he looked at the calendar or the time. He's shaking, but he's figured that was the drugs. Maybe he should eat, but not with her out there. Not while she's conscious. She'll keep him from his research. She doesn't want him in here anymore, and he has to figure this out.

"I'm on--I just need a few more days," he says, flipping through his notes again. "I almost have it, I know I do."

He gets up, fairly suddenly, running his fingers through his hair. He should probably shower, too, but that takes even more time away.

«It just doesn't make sense,» he continues, pacing. «Things were going so well, and I was pretty sure I had the extra details under control -- there was one that it could have been, she had a friend, but I didn't think much of it at the time. There's just no reason.» His wings flick and stretch out, hitting the bookshelves behind him, and the sudden realignment of his weight ( ... )
