i just killed an insect that i've never seen before in my life. it wasn't a spider/fly/cricket/roach/junebug/earwig/etc... or any of that usual nonsense. it looked almost like a brown praying mantis of sorts? i'm no bug expert, but i had to stop and stare at it for quite some time before smashing it to pieces because of its novelty. what was it

certain species of praying manti are brown. i'm not sure if any can be found around here, though.
