italy is playing australia at the moment. it's fun, but oh so nail-biting, too. the australian coach is the same guy who was coaching the south korean team 4 years ago, and that was the team that ended up eliminating italy from the tournament ( Read more... )

there are no ties in the knockout stages.
it goes to overtime (2 15 minute periods), and if it's still tied after that, they go to penalty kicks...

NOT a good thing for italians, usually. :(

hmm, i should know that, what with living in world cup fever central at the moment, but eh. i bet you're REALLY biting your nails now. i'm watching the bbc's live updates of the match since, uh, i'm at work... part of me (secretly) would like it if the aussies advanced, just to stick it to england... but i shouldn't have said that because you and todd might hate me then. ok, forza azzurri! (there might be too many consonants there, i'm not sure)
