Lois had been out chasing a lead on a story most of the day, and when she finally arrived back at the Planet, expecting to find Clark hard at work behind his computer, she instead found his desk abandoned and a note on her computer saying he'd be gone all afternoon and that she should call Chloe ASAP

Once they got upstairs, Chloe managed to get Mia to take some Tylenol PM, she looked exhausted and Chloe knew she wasn't going to get any sleep on her own.

She had finally passed out on the couch and Chloe threw a blanket over her, just as she was turning away, toward the computer stations to start on some work, Chloe heard her phone buzzing inside her purse and hurried to pick it up before it woke Mia up.

The second she saw the caller ID, her stomach turned. Lois. She'd have to tell her.

With a deep breath, Chloe accepted the call and started upstairs as quiet as possible, pulling the phone to her ear, "hey, Lo."

Lois frowned a little. "Hey. I had a note from Smallville telling me to call you ASAP. Why are you whispering?"

[chloeas]

"Mia is sleeping." She told her cousin quietly, not having the energy to lie as she got to the top of the stairs and walked further down the hall.

"Something happened, Lo."

[dp_lois]

She leaned forward a little in her chair. "What happened? Is Mia okay?" She glanced at the clock, wondering why the younger girl was sleeping at 8 in the evening.

Nodding, Chloe took a deep and started back towards her small room, turning to look at Lois once they were sitting down on her bed, "it happened last night."

Lois kept her arm around her cousin. "What happened?" she asked, shaking her head a little.

Sighing deeply, Chloe leaned into Lois and looked down at her hands on her lap, "Mia and I were shopping and we went by the training facility and... we found him." She choked on her words, blocking the images this time, and took a deep breath, "it was Lex, he hired someone."

She opened her mouth to respond, then shut it again, her stomach tightening. "He was murdered?" Her voice came out more strangled than she'd wanted it to.

Lois made her way quietly down the stairs, not wanting to disturb the sleeping teenager as she moved out of the main room and into the kitchen. She rummaged silently through cupboards until she found a can of chicken noodle soup in the back of one of them and set it on the counter, a silent sob escaping her.

She quickly pressed a hand to her mouth, her shoulders shaking involuntarily as tears began to trickle down her cheeks.

Ollie was dead.

And she hadn't even gotten to say goodbye.

Chloe took a deep breath and stood up. She meant to go down the stairs, but stopped and looked in the direction of his room. Swallowing hard, she walked toward it slowly, pausing by the door and reaching for the light switch before stopping herself and pulling the door closed instead.

She wasn't ready for it, she wanted to make sure she was alone when she went in there again. But she didn't want anyone going inside.

Lois had managed to pull herself together enough to go back up the stairs and into Chloe's room, and when she didn't see her, she set down the soup and glass of water she'd made, then stepped into the corridor once more.

The breath caught in her throat as she spotted her cousin standing outside the other small bedroom--the one she knew that Oliver had been using for the last several months.

Silently, Lois made her way over to her, wrapping her arms around her waist from behind.

Chloe stilled for a second, she hadn't heard Lois walking upstairs or toward her, but she glanced over her shoulder and relaxed, "I don't think anyone should go inside." She explained quietly.

Lois held her tightly, closing her eyes and rubbing her back. She remembered a time a few years ago, when she'd thought she'd lost Chloe, and how badly it had hurt. Thank God it had turned out to be all right then.

"I love you, Lo." Chloe whispered quietly after a long moment. She hadn't had the chance to tell Oliver, she didn't want to miss anymore opportunities.

[dp_lois]

Her eyes watered again. "I love you, too, Chlo," she whispered fiercely. "And so did Ollie."

[chloeas]

Chloe stilled for a second then closed her eyes tightly, holding on to Lois as tightly as possible, tears running down her cheek, "I know," she whispered brokenly.
