Lois sat at her desk, typing up the notes to her most recent story--one about a recent crime spree plaguing Suicide Slums. She reached out absently and took a sip of the coffee Clark had brought her earlier, not looking up from her computer. There were little red lines underneath nearly every other word of what she'd typed but she'd stopped seeing ( Read more... )

Clark eyed the coffee cup with a raised brow, noting it was the same one he'd set down a few hours before (his name was scrawled across the top as an inside joke), and inserted a memory stick into his computer to download some information he'd come across at the library for one of his own stories.

The sentimental mood pieces that drove his partner crazy.

Just like her smile was driving him crazy. They'd both been insanely busy lately, so it was nice to just exist in the same space together for a few minutes. "How's your day going?"

"Wonderfully slow. I'm almost caught up typing my notes for my last two stories, neither of which is due for two more days." She took another sip of the coffee. "What about you?"

"That sounds like paradise." He glanced around furtively to make sure no one was watching and took off his glasses, pinching the bridge of his nose. Not that there were much people around at this late hour.

"Zipping from one thing to another. I may invest in frequent flyer miles."

Lois grinned at him. "Somehow I don't think you'll need to do that." Her voice was light. She leaned forward a little. "Everything okay? You seem a little stressed."

Lois smiled at that. "Think there will be anything good leftover from the day shift?" she asked, raising an eyebrow as they waited for the elevator to arrive.

"Doubtful. I'd settle for a couple sandwiches and a cup of coffee right now." The light above the doors dinged and Clark moved out of the way so those exiting didn't run him or Lois over.

"Ladies first."

"Be nice if there was at least a doughnut," she said, stepping onto the elevator and waiting for him to do the same. "But I'll settle for coffee."

"If there aren't any, I could always run over and get some down the street. I think that donut chain is open until midnight." Maple ones, of course.

And lucky them, the only two heading down.

"You are such a smartass," he mumbled, and counted to five slowly before sauntering out after her, holding the elevator for one of the upper floor reporters who was coming from the direction of the cafeteria. "Mr. Lombard." The older man nodded as Clark stepped out, waiting until the doors closed again before following in Lois' footsteps.

It was really hard to walk calmly instead of using super speed, but he slipped into the office only a few minutes after her.

Lois turned around and smirked at him, shutting the door and locking it behind him and then closing the blinds. Her heart was already beating more quickly in her chest. Then she stepped closer to him, standing on her tiptoes once more and kissing him.

There was a small smile in return while he watched her lock them both inside, his hearing noting where people were on this particular floor. And considering that very few accessed the cafeteria so late, they were assured some modicum of privacy.

He picked Lois up, holding her flush against him, and returned said kiss tenderly, tongue teasing against her lips.

She wrapped her legs around his waist instantly, sliding her arms around his neck and let her lips part to give him access.

Lois would have suggested he just rip it open because it would be a lot faster, but she remembered she still had a work shift to finish after their little excursion. She undid the button on his pants, shifting slightly on the desk and squeezing her legs around his hips.

... Yeah, returning to work with ruined clothing would be a dead giveaway. It didn't stop him from removing her shirt once it was undone, and going to work on her bra, while he pressed against her hand once his pants were unzipped.

"I love you," he whispered, nuzzling his nose against her cheek.

She closed her eyes, nuzzling him back as she cupped him through his boxers. "I love you, too, Clark," she whispered.
