The so-called "personhood" of "pre-born" babies

This salon piece about reproductive issues mentions some really scary cases of women not being allowed control over their bodies. Yikes.

I like this comment from reader bernbart:

You've heard of childless women being called "pre-pregnant" and sometimes denied procedures that could harm their future fertility even if they don't mind? Ummmmmm yeah. :P

In the old days, a baby was granted personhood when it drew its first independent breath. Truth is, it's a bit of a fuzzy boundary and we have to draw the line SOMEWHERE in order to have a consistent law.
