Some notes to help you out while you're writing paper #4. This is pretty much what I went over in class today, with a little extra detail.

I remember doing this one five years ago! That was my favorite assignment of that class. Is there any chance you still have that Chili's add I used? I tried looking for it online a while back and never have been able to come up with anything.

Hmmm. I might. I don't remember it off-hand though. Give me a description and I'll see if I still have it. If so, I'll see what I can do about getting it scanned in and send it to you.

I'm glad you liked this assignment. It's a toughie, but I think it gets students thinking more deeply than they've probably been asked to do before.

Thinking about it, it was actually six years ago, not five... I still have the paper saved that has the best description of it. Here the excerpt. I imagine that will serve better than memory, since I was looking at the ad as I typed it out.

This advertisement in particular is one of the "Priceless" Master Card ads. The picture is of a pretty brunette girl eating a cheeseburger and french fries at Chili's, and she has a small drop of ketchup on her face. The table cuts her off just below her nice sized breasts, so it can be assumed that this ad is targeting men more than anything. The text at the top of the ad says, "Chili's big mouth burgers for you and your date: $15," and right below, "(finding a nice way to tell her she has ketchup on her face: priceless)" At the bottom of the ad, just below the french fries, it says, "The best place to hook up with friends is at Chili's. With burgers, babyback ribs, fajitas, molten chocolate cake - Chili's has everything you crave. So bring your date. Bring your friends. Bring your ( ... )

Hey this is Mike in Eng Comp 1301 P13, it's Monday the 12/5/11 and I'm standing outside of class and assuming that we have no class today by the look of things. Do I assume right?

It's finals week, Mike. You only attend your final exams.

(Also, I don't teach section P13. I assume you mean P15?)
