I will truly miss your fics, tho. Their exchanges are witty, with the perfect touch of animosity tied to the concern. These two could have had years of this beyond them.

This is quite nice. It feels a little patchy, but that's not at all a bad thing. I do like how you hit it with no buildup, only glossing over it later. Because, as nice as it was, that really wasn't the point. The last line is - and I love that.
I also really love this: "and regretting that he never did get the chance to hit the one man he really wanted to - John House."
I love how both of those lines work together, oddly enough, to show that House's fight is always with himself - he just projects it onto other people. I mean - he's got real conflicts with each of these people, but the fact that he can't seem to man up and *face* either of these struggles head-on, but always avoids or deflects instead - that eats at him more than the conflicts themselves.
I always love your writing - you almost always manage to open a different window on these characters, and it's a compelling view.

I've always loved your take on the characters and this story feels real to the characters I used to love in the past. Great writing!
