Solar power in Australia

May 19, 2009 18:21

For anyone who cares, I now have about 1020w of solar panels on the garage! This is an initiative of the government, which is going to run out or more accurately change for the worse at the end of june. ( cut for the sometimes fragile sanity of those on my friends list! )

I everyone had one of these, we wouldn't require power plants and wouldn't have to pay so much for power I guess. It would all be very clean and green!

Dunno! Certainly they are paying much more for the power than they get for it from us. I haven't established if the meter can monitor both at once, or if it is purely directional, but certainly there will be a lot of these being rolled out at great cost to Mr. rudd!!! I know it's green power, and that is worth more, but not that much more! I'd also be surprised if the cost of generating power with coal is even a fraction of the 7c/kwh.
Perhaps the government have realised they over did it as the whole deal is off after June 30. There still will be grants, but only about half of what you can get now.
So, we can only wait and see what ends up happenning!
The other thing of course is that in this configuration, they are not usable as power backup as the inverters shut down if they detect the grid has died.
People could get bitten if it didn't!
