Thor had hoped beyond reason that just because they were in Asgard again, that Thor had reunited Loki with his beloved wife, that perhaps he might be forgiven. So far as he could see, though, that wasn't the case. Loki kept busy talking to people - Spock, Leonard, anyone else - but wouldn't stand a minute alone with Thor, as if he were trying to ( Read more... )

He had never been anywhere like this before. The grandeur of the castle reminded Jim of a museum, except that instead of the cold, detached quality of a building on display, this place was alive. Jim wandered marble halls, peeking curiously through open doors at rich, plush furnishings. He nodded occasionally when someone acknowledged him, some of those people making him feel oddly self-conscious. It made him uncomfortable in the same way the crowds of people in San Francisco had that night with Bones, only these people had another reason for the curious glances he caught here and there ( ... )

Loki pulled back, his hand curving along the line of Thor's jaw, and he whispered, "I think I should take my leave for now, brother."

Thor's brows drew together in confusion, and his hand tightened on Loki's hip. "You have appointments already? Who - "

Loki interrupted him with a laugh, and he cast a brief glance over Thor's shoulder before sneaking another kiss from him. "...I'm not the one with obligations; that seems to be you." He stepped to the side, and Thor turned as he tried to catch him by the arm again.

The fabric of Loki's shirt slipped through his fingers as he caught sight of Jim and froze.

Jim watched Loki nod and smile and disappear, still rooted to the spot. His mind was racing, trying to make what he had just seen fit what he knew and coming up blank. That kiss, the posture of their bodies leaning into each other. That possessive fist in Thor's hair. The large hand gripping Loki's hip as he pulled away.

None of it made sense. He felt an odd sort of distance from his body, observing the coldhotsick feeling of shock coursing through him from what felt like a great distance. Licking lips gone dry, his eyes flicked to Thor. "You..."

"But that was..." Jim could count on one hand the number of times he had felt this awkward in his lifetime. Brows furrowed in an unconscious echo of Thor's expression, he stepped down off of the stairs. "What just happened?"

Thor rose a step to meet him, looking down for a brief moment to try to find an explanation. There was no way to explain himself well against the expectations Jim had been raised with - even those in Asgard would disapprove if they knew the depth of Thor's relationship with his brother.

He looked up to meet Jim's eyes. "You saw what happened, Jim." He motioned up towards the top of the staircase again. "We should discuss this elsewhere."
