Oh god

I don't think I can handle the trauma of The Archers today. The acting is so, so much better than any TV soap. I once had a dream that I was running round Dulwich Common when I saw Tamsin Grieg, and stopped to congratulate her on her scenes as Debbie Aldridge with her fictional father Brian. Has there ever been a more bourgeois dream ( Read more... )

class, violence, dreams, brothers, the archers

I was at uni with Tamsin Greig. She's just about the only one out of our department (Drama, at Birmingham) to make anything of herself. Did you hear her on Jonathan Ross' Radio 2 show on Friday? I was riveted to hear she's had three kids with 'the love of her life' - I'd love to know if it is the same guy she was dating in those days...

Ooh, I have just looked at the BBC page on her and she's married to someone quite different. There you go. It also invited me to 'test my knowledge of Tamsin Greig', which felt a bit odd.

A while back I saw Charles Collingwood in the canteen at work - I recognized him because it was shortly after the big Brian/Siobhan SCANDAL and his photo had been in the papers. He sounded exactly the same in real life and was wearing a cravat. He must have been there to record a voiceover for some educational materials, so there may now be loads of students around the world learning to speak English like Brian Aldridge (surely the world's least convincing farmer evurrr).

I told a friend about this, and she said she'd interviewed him previously and thought he could best be described as "a walking, talking cravat".

Oh I think he convinces. Having grown up in an Ambridge style village I can confirm that there are posh farmers like him. I swear those scenes where Debbie was expressing the betrayal of both her man and her father were dynamite. I remember they printed a pic of him and the actress who plays/played Siobhan; she was just as I imagined too (and foxy!).

Haha, I think that's the picture I remember too.

The farm boys I went to school with were more like Ed Grundy and Jazzer. :-(

Oh ditto. There were some serious inbreds in my school (primary and secondary), a frightening number of whom collected ninja weaponry (as well, of course, as firearms). In our village there were two families who'd been feuding for at LEAST 400 years.

I know. I couldn't wait to get home from the pub last night to listen (online). I had tears in my eyes when Will was saying "please, please don't do this to me"... GRIPPING

Shuttup Alex, this is a very tense drama and the Will/Emma/Ed situation had been brewing for *years*. Please TAKE IT SERIOUSLY OR GO OUT OF THE ROOM WHEN I'M LISTENING

Sorry. I like The Archers. My father is a big fan and we used to listen to it in the car and in the kitchen on Sundays.
