List seven songs you are into right now. no matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. I don't care that they're kooky upper class hippies' kids

It's bothersome that they seem to be scared of black people, tho'.

Oh dear. That's pretty sad. I don't think Sierra Cassady is scared of black people though, given that she's married to Spleen, the guy who beatboxes and MCs on their album.

> Voodoo by Chungking

This is an extraordinary track. Like Minnie Riperton produced by Goldfrapp. It's been going on all my mix CDs for people recently. Lovely stuff.

Now if only I were the head of Radio 2 or something, my hearty endorsement might be some use to them.

I was actually in Chungking for some years before they had a deal, though we were a much much more musically rudimentary and slightly more comical proposition around then. Back then Jessie even used to rap! I am constantly amazed by their tenacity and willingness to keep it up - the amount of wranglings in getting and keeping a record deal is just ludicrous. It's shameful that the album didn't get more attention when it was re-released on Gut as 'The Hungry Years' - I think almost all reviewers took half a listen, thought it was exactly the same as the Tummy Touch issue and dismissed it, when actually it's quite radically remixed, even re-recorded in parts, and sounds like a million dollars in comparison to the previous version.

I've heard some of the new album as works-in-progress and it's got the potential to really blow some minds. It's HUGE prog funk, along the lines of Voodoo and World Of A Thousand Suns. Really powerful stuff.
