Look, I've had this rant before. But just to recap for all you poor folk who think I'm a general security help desk ( Read more... )

Now you just shush. I have none of the things I'm meant to have up and running. I maintain that coming from a family of geeks all that stuff should be done for me, as I am not remotely Geek-enabledTM.

Help me, I thought everyone loved XP? Bede and Nikki would not bloody shut up about it back when I was a ME girl (ok, granted, ME is apparently teh uber shite, but I was content dammit!)

I am sleep deprived, and this is a bad post because I know I'm meant to have set up all these things (aka got Tre, Stew, Jake, Bede or Nikki to do it) and haven't.

I feel like I'm tempting fate here.....at least there aren't too many pics of me nekkid on my computer.

ME IS utter shite. People differ on XP, personally it has nothing to offer me except hog resources that could be put to better use running multiple VM's, so I stick with 2K when I venture in windows land. If you are in a corporate environment with a 2003 AD server then XP shines.

You are tempting fate. If you are on broadband without firewall, anti-spyware and anti-virus then you are probably already being used as a spam relay or zombie machine. If I find your 'puter was part of the DDoS on the Register yesterday you are in much trouble...

All of the things I suggested could be done with ease by any real computer geek. Get them cracking! {after I find those nekkid pics of you that is}

Heh, I'm on dialup. Therefore I shall ignore all you've said and feel a sense of (ignorant) relief *exhales*

The problem with the nakey pics is I don't know where I put them. I named them as something else....I can see that biting me on the arse at the next LAN....

they could make a great distraction to pop up on peoples screens just before you storm around the corner with both barrells blazing. 'I see fragged people!'

Dial up gives you some measure of protection merely because your bandwidth is useless to hackers. Won't protect you from worms and the like though.

*eek ... runs and hides - that is the reason I have computer geek friends and such so I don't have to know all this stuff... There will be many dinners and I am guessing several cases of wine before my puter is how it should be. *sighs - I guess I shall have to work today after all :P

I set up all if not most of things on your box when I first installed it. If you choose to log in and use admin account there's nothing I can do.... except maybe change your admin passdword and then not tell you.

Excellent, although my weeks are booking up quickly, so you'll have to get in fast with a date. I wish I'd thought of using scare tactics when I was a starving uni student trying to eat! :)

hmm how much of a bribe would it be to come round and help me set up a linux box...been wanting to for ages lol

Firstly make sure you choose the right linux. Red Hat or Mandrake are definitely not the right ones.

Besides that good music and a few drinks are all that is required... as long as you want HELP not installation monkey.

Slackware is cool, I'll be in that. I'm a BSD boy myself but the concepts are the same. We can create a VPN so I could help you without leaving the house :)
