I've always thought I was a good parent. Not the most hip or cool, of course but I never thought I was overbearing in a smothering sort of sense either. What the hell is going on? You and Sophie are both so "secretive". Does she have some kind of incurable disease or AIDS or something? Even Alex is in on this and he won't tell me.

I was not aware of the fact that she'd told Alex. And no, she does not have AIDS, I assure you I would not be so calm or collected if that were the case.

My daughter saw fit to get ridiculously drunk with a childhood friend of hers and she is now pregnant with his child. She intends to give the child up for adoption.

I know that Sophia is likely to talk to you. I don't want you to feel like you're stuck in the middle.

And I know I can talk to you. I probably should have just spoken to you about this in the first place, instead of putting it here.
