Ooh, I really like this one. Glad you reviewed it. I first read it in an anthology called THE RIVALS OF FRANKENSTEIN and loved it, it had everything you could want from a gothic horror story.
Rumor is that Universal planned to film it along with another Smith story, but then backed off for unspecified reasons. I tried to find more info about this from various horror movie boards, only to get the rudest responses I've ever gotten in my life. Oh well.
Oh, and you've been quoted on that eldritchdark site, I see.
Oh, I would like to see a film incorporating a few Smith stories.. "The Dark Eidolon" would be a good climax, I think.
I'm glad to see my reviews referenced on that site, maybe a few Clark Ashton Smith fans will follow the link here. Every now and then, I see "Dr Hermes" turn up unexpectedly. It's funny to try to find information on some obscure pulp and find yourself listed as a source...!
Your virtual fan-cave, though a lot more informal than, say, ratmmjess's Library of Pop-Cultural Esoterica, is a fun hangout and a valuable resource--thanks once again for sharing!
Thank you for the kind words (and your frequent comments and pointers to related items). Heck, I could never begin to do the in-depth scholarly research that Jess has done. But if Retro-Scans is an amusing spot to drop by for a few minutes, I'm content.
