Stephen hadn’t come back for the last month, surprise, surprise. It probably should’ve alarmed Wilson how bitter he was about the whole thing, but he wasn’t going to bother. It appeared as though Stephen had decided to move on, so he wasn’t going to sit around and pine for him

Hawkeye had needed some more time away from the 4077, which made going back to the Jersey hospital a logical choice. He just hadn't expected to get knocked over by an attractive man.

He took his hand, looking him over and holding it just a fraction of a second too long. "Doctor Wilson, right? It's okay. I'm not supposed to be here to begin with."

Wilson nodded. "That's me. I still should've been looking where I was going." He gave Hawkeye a small smile. "Long day." Or, you know, month. But who was counting? "Taking a break from the war?"

"The war's never going to end. Breaks keep me sane." Or relatively sane, anyway. Most people probably wouldn't agree that he was actually sane.

Picking up his bag, Wilson gave him a sympathetic look. "Yeah, I can't imagine how horrible that must be," he replied, realizing how much less weird it was to talk to a fictional character now. The portal had desensitized him.

He was also noticing that Hawkeye was rather attractive.
