dumb ankle...

I do believe it's sprained. I was warming up for a pickup soccer game today, and tried to turn and shoot. Mind you, with no one within 30 feet of me. I think what happened was that my left foot stepped on my right shoe as I swung the right foot to kick. Then I heard what sounded like a who buncha joints in the top of my foot (where there aren't ( Read more... )

That sucks. If your foot felt like it was sort of going sideways for a bit, that's probably a sprain. I have a lot of experience with these, sadly. If it hurts like a bitch tomorrow, that's normal and confirms it's a sprain. If you're mostly ok tomorrow but a little tender you lucked out and merely strained it, but still don't fence in it. If you have boots or some sort of shoes that extend up past the ankle these are a godsend for preventing reinjury.

Sprains are your body's way of telling you "stop playing soccer". If you're anything like me, you will go "oh, I feel fine now!" after it has stopped hurting, and go out and do something physical again completely ignorant of the fact that because you fucked it up once it is now vulnerable for a disturbingly long period of time. This is one of the reasons I have had repeated ankle injuries to both my ankles. I suggest you avoid this, not by avoiding physical activity but by wearing stuff that makes it hard for you to roll your foot like that--high shoes, ankle wraps or braces, ( ... )

Wikipedia has links to a couple of good sports medicine articles on when to continue competitive sports. That said, I'll probably stick to fencing for the first month or two after I clear that hurdle

That stinks.

I suppose, but after that we're getting you baptized. Poor, ignorant heathen. ;)

Then again, if YOU got baptized, I guess I would have to, too. Nevermind, coffee and bars it is.

Also, Sam and I have a can of salmon we never ate at Estrella... it's probably still good, what with it being closed and all. We could eat it at Potrero, but we were thinking it would make a good offering to the Sacred Feline. Thoughts?
