Venus Transit - 6/5/12

On the 5th of June, much of the world was treated to one of the rarest of all predicted events - a transit of Venus across the disk of the Sun. Awesome pictures! I especially love the last one.

As is typical for this area, there was no blue sky and complete cloud cover, so we watched a lot of it online.

I love the moody sunset shot. Over on this side of the pond it was cloudy; a friend further south caught a five-second glimpse towards the end, but there was nothing at all to see where I live. I did get to see the whole of the 2004 transit though, at an open house event in a nearby village - a whole garden full of people I don't know at all were happy to let me peer delightedly through their expensive instruments and even occasionally hook my camera up to their setups. Amateur astronomers are a great bunch.
