I just finished reading "Holes" by Louis Sachar. I resisted reading it for months because I wasn't willing to waste my time reading a hack children's book by a hack children's author

I had not heard of the book, only the movie. I was hesitant to even investigate Holes since Disney distribute the movie. Believe it or not, if you go to the Disney Holes DVD website http://disney.go.com/disneyvideos/liveaction/holes/main.html you can even download a teacher's guide on how to use Holes in the classroom. I am VERY weary everytime I read something like this. (Hmmm... Maybe I should repost the Baby Einstein Rant from last year)

I will take the advice and look for a copy.

It is indeed a book to pick up atleast once, if not for yourself, for the kids so you know what you can let 'em read.
I though I had mentioned "Holes" sometimes but I might be misstaken, alot of things going trough my mind at the moment, mostly pain in form of a infection in my ear.
