Slash 2

I'm going to host another Slash Fiction Study Day at De Montfort University next year, most likely on 27th February. If there is enough interest, it'll run over 2 days. The format will be much the same, except that papers will also be specifically invited on fan films and yaoi and there'll be a panel on Brokeback Mountain ( Read more... )

Hello - it's good to hear from you, and it's excellent news that you're planning another one!

That date's very close to Redemption '07 the die-hards will be leaving the Redemption hotel on the 26th) - and I'd be pretty sure that a good number (at least a dozen?) of the people at last year's Study Day will be at Redemption. (Will you?? :-))

For some people, it might be convenient to have one immediately after the other, but I don't know whether that's true for everyone. Have you chosen that date with Redemption in mind? It might be worth mentioning the idea in redemption_con.

The study day has to be in the week of 26th - 2nd to coincide with Cultural eXchanges, the festival at my university which will host, fund and organise it. With luck it might mean that a few people, being around Leicester anyway, will decide to do both Redemption and Slash 2. If it does turn out to be a real problem, I might have to put it off for a year. Incidentally, a draft call for papers is as follows (subject to changes ( ... )

I think it could be an inducement, especially for some overseas people who might feel it's easier to justify a trip for two events than for one; in the past, when Star One has happened a couple of weeks after Redemption, some overseas fans have hung around all that time to do both. So I agree that you should target the Redemption lists, and stress that Leicester and Hinckley are very close (for the benefit of foreigners understandably hazy about midland geography).

Oh yippee! More fun. I probably won't be at Redemption as it happens, but might well try to make this one. What day of the week is 27 Feb?

Feb 27 is Tuesday. Redemption runs Feb 23-25 (Friday-Sunday). So it sounds like a lot of people will need to stay on in Hinckley/Leicester another night or two.

Wince. That's going to be massively inconvenient...I wonder if I can stay with my Mum...

I'm sorry you won't be at Redemption, but it would be good to see you at this one, if I can make it.

Oh, that's wonderful news! I'll definitely be there.

And the date *just* avoids overlapping with the Redemption con. I'm going to be having a very fannish week :-)

Of course, if it were on the Monday, we could hire a coach to take everyone straight from the hotel to DMU.

When you have a date, you might want to let virgule know.

It'll be on Tuesday 27 February 2007, barring some major mishap. The Redemption conference finishes on the 25th, so people may wish to stay over and come to Slash 2 as well. The Holiday Inn in Leics may well be able to do a deal.
