I can't support single payer. Those systems (examples Canada's, and Britain's NHS) provide good basic care, but were only affordable when demographics were more favorable. The kind of top-down control of resources used to keep costs down mean lower quality and often delayed care, which means in Britain at least many people have additional insurance, thus paying twice. As their populations age, the costs are requiring major rethinks, as we are going to have to do with Medicare, which is basically 80% coverage single-payer
