Anyone who's walking past Schreber's room and will hear rustling and creaking noises. And no, he doesn't have company.

Not exactly.

Dr. Schreber, I presume. If that's what you are. Doctor.

No! No more doctors! No more hurts!

D-don't leave me here! Please!

Schreber curls up into himself a little more.

You fucking rat. How stupid d'you think I am?

Sorries are for regular peoples. Not numbers.

Shivers a little harder.

He'll be furious--

So, what, you were sent here tonight to kill me?

--please.

It's all a big joke. It's his decision. And then they sent you away, more pathetic than ever. I don't want to die! Control is a fraud, everything and nothing. Cooperation is easy. But what about my past? Everyone has scars. Why are people mean? You of all people should be well aware of how much a body can take before breaking down. You were cutting up my damn brain, what did you expect me to do?

Get out, Daniel. I can't deal with this.

"Stop it," Schreber chokes out to the empty room. "I know," he gasps. "I'm tired," he says. "Go away."

But if there's no one there to begin with, how can they go away?

I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself. Didn't ask for pokes and prods, for hurts! Get the hell out of my head already. My head's in a noose now. What happened to you? Oh God, Jack, no, just no. You've only got one life, hmmm? Or was it a selfish act because I was the only one who really knew I was trapped? He has every right to be scared out of his wits by all of us. This man sounds vile-- what is being done about him?

Of course, Doctor. You came to say goodbye. Very understandable.

"No," Schreber bites out, sharp and sudden enough to cut through the noise at last.

He swings his legs over the edge of the bed, buries his face in his hands for a minute, and then stands up and heads for the door, picking up his glasses on the way.

A few minutes later, he's outside the building and heading for the main part of the Nexus.
