Literary Style

Lately I have been enjoying a couple of fine writers. There's James Thurber whose short stories have become a regular Friday feature on Keith Olberman's show and Dalton Trumbo whose book of letters I lucked into finding at my library (it's out of print). Haha, very nice! Lots of character in these sketches.

On a side note, I quite like Thurber's short fiction (The Wonderful O, The Thirteen Clocks), though I haven't read too much of his other stuff. But I recommend his autobiography, My Life And Hard Times, if you haven't read it yet. The little scribbles he does are really neat.

Also, I came across this clip today and thought of you.

You know my weaknesses. It was a bit of a thrill to find these two gents were so finely mustache'd (though I like their glasses and Thurber's streak too).

I'm really just familiar with Thurber from the weekly readings on Olberman. He's mainly been reading fables and the odd magazine piece here and there so it's good to get your recommendations. As I mentioned I just started Dalton Trumbo's letters and it's pretty neat. He was such a prolific letter writer it really does feel like a curious sort of novel, perhaps like what the Historian was supposed to be...but entertaining. I rather desperately want to steal the book, but for now I will settle for reading it and liberating it's old catalog card.
