Nature of the job. Just as he'd prepared to leave, he'd been called by Jane's lawyer. A good kid, from what he'd heard during their conversation. Overworked but trying to devote as much attention to every case as they deserved. He'd burn out in a year, Jim worried. He'd called asking if Jim knew the cause of the marks on Jane's neck when she'd been arrested. Jim had told him that he thought Jane's victim, whom she'd been impersonating, and her boyfriend fought often. It wasn't a lie. They did fight. And he knew Harvey had worried more than once that the fights got physical. It also wasn't the truth.
Twenty minutes after he was supposed to meet her, Jim took a seat across from Audrey. "Sorry," he muttered, giving her a bit of a smile when he sat.
