Of course she’s been afraid before on this whole crazy adventure. Like when the weeping angels nearly killed her and the time the Silurians dragged her underground and she was sure she was going to die. But it’s never been like this. Because now she’s back on Earth, in her own time, standing in her front yard and staring up at the sky. And the stars are going out. If she hadn’t seen the things she has, she’d think she was dreaming, but she has and she knows it’s all horribly, terrifyingly real.
The stars are going out. Disappearing one by one as if some cosmic being is flipping off a row of light switches.
She can feel her heart beating fast, her whole body trembling with fear. The Doctor reaches over and takes her hand, squeezing gently.
“Doctor…there’s a way to fix this, right? The world’s not just gonna end. You can do something about it.”
“Yes, Amy, we’ll figure something out.” But there’s something off in his voice - the usual manic confidence is missing. “Now let’s get back in the TARDIS.”
She tears her eyes off of the sky - now with less than half its usual number of lights - and allows him to lead her back to his ship.
She can’t help the feeling that he only said it to make her feel better.
