I have already give up on loking for a Demotic course in Berlin ... and I found one! Well, it kind of found me. Anyways, I missed the first two classes, but i hav permission to join and was given all materials. You are telling me. I was just having an interesting conversation with bf about how our lives differ, because they are so full of learning and interest, with your average person who only comes home and watches TV or goes to the pub.

I am wrestling with Chinese script at the moment. I need a decent book to teach me HOW to write it. I think a trip into Chinatown might be the best policy because I am sure they must have some books for Chinese kids who are born here and want to learn how to write.

The best book on how to learn Chinese, including the script, is Practical Chinese - this series. I've learned from the German version, and it's the best there is, really. Then, of course, there's calligraphy, which uses the same system but the strokes are done differently, but you really need a master for that.

Wow...demotic - you are brave!! I can handle hieratic, Coptic and 'glyphs but I think Demotic is SCARY! Lol! Hope you enjoy it!

I self-taught myself to a level that I can decipher the little texts that we find during our excavations, but I need to get a system in it! I usually enjoy it, except for the moments when I just don't know what to do with a sing I'm facing, then I HATE it XD
