Chocolate overload

The party on Saturday went over well. I decided that it was officially our housewarming party as well. We had the standard housewarming setup (we here half unpacked, the place was just barely not a mess, etc). I think it counted anyway.

The organizer and a small crew arrived around 7 to finish off the setup. I finally declared that I had cleaned the house enough for one day and snagged a shower. By the time I came down, the party was in full swing. We didn't quite know how many people to expect, but we got a rather large turnout. Anyone who was there have a decent guess at a headcount?

I spent about half of the evening wandering around playing host and the other half hidden away upstairs with a smaller crowd of people. I actually stayed away from most of the chocolate. I hadn't eaten much that day and wanted to get some dinner in me before I filled my belly with sugar and alcohol. Candle and leimon_malakoi were kind enough to run out and snag me some pad thai from good place nearby. I had my dinner...and some chocolate...and some very nice drinks (try putting strawberries in Jones cream soda). and to anyone who wants to try a very good ice wine without paying a small fortune, go out and find Covey Run reserve (the bottle has a white label with two quails on it). It is apparently at Harris Teter and costs about $30 for a 375ml bottle. Well worth it.

The party wound down around 2 or 3 in the morning...although by then I wasn't really paying attention to the clock. A few smart people suggested to me which things should really be cleaned up before they got scary and either inedible or uncleanable. Thank you to all those who helped me with the post-party cleaning. I hung out with the last few people at the party until about 5am, at which point all those who were left either crashed or went home.

The cleanup is still ongoing. Nothing says sticky mess like chocolate all over the house. Most of the chocolate either wound up inside people or in the kitchen, for which I am very grateful, so things weren't really that bad. All in all, the party was great fun...but I need some downtime before I host again.
